The Karachaganak project received modular substations of Kazakhstan production, the press service of the company Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. reports (KPO).
“As part of the implementation of the strategy for the development of the oil and gas industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan, initiatives to increase the local content and involvement of Kazakhstani producers in the implementation of oil and gas projects, Karachaganak Petroleum Operating B.V. (KPO), shareholders of the Karachaganak project, akimats of the West Kazakhstan region (WKO), Almaty city and representatives of the authorized body – PSA LLP took part in the ceremony of shipment of modular substations manufactured in Kazakhstan by Schneider Electric LLP for the KPO project for removal gas production restrictions (SOG), ”KPO said on Wednesday.
It is noted that in October 2017, as part of the interregional visit of the akimat of the WKO, KPO signed a contract with Schneider Electric, a world leader in the production of electrical equipment, for the manufacture of five modular substations for the SDOG project. For their manufacture, Schneider Electric attracted a Kazakhstani partner, Karasai Machine-Building Plant, PSI Engineering LLP.
“A feature of this contract is that previously such substations were manufactured abroad. This is the first product manufactured in Kazakhstan. The KPO strategy for the development of local content in the SDN project, implemented with the direct support of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the authorized body, enabled Kazakhstani materials to be used in the manufacture of substations, loaded the capacities of the Karasai Machine-Building Plant, attracted Kazakhstani specialists to work and transferred technology and knowledge to Kazakhstani partners, ” KPO CEO Edwin Blom noted.
Speaking at the equipment shipment ceremony, the General Director of Schneider Electric LLP Maxim Ageev said that these substations were made for the first time at the Karasai Machine-Building Plant.
“We are proud to announce the transition to the final phase of the project to supply high-tech modular substations for KPO. These substations of Kazakhstan production were first produced using advanced international technologies on the basis of the Karasai Engineering Plant. With this project, our company once again confirms the commitment of its strategy to attract investment, development of innovations and competencies in the Republic of Kazakhstan. A successful project with KPO allowed us to complement our strategy, better understand the potential of Kazakhstani manufacturers and expand our capabilities in producing new products for our company. We intend to continue attracting Kazakhstani machine builders, ”Ageev emphasized.
Modular substations of Kazakhstan production successfully passed complex factory acceptance tests, confirming compliance with the requirements of KPO.
“The successful implementation of the local content development strategy in the SDN project allowed KPO to place 18 direct orders to 10 producers from five regions of the Republic of Kazakhstan for about $ 52 million, which allowed providing additional volumes of domestic machine builders,” Blom noted.
